The instant just before you go

Probably, we all have the experience that the quiet pause just before a decision settles into the body — the moment when the decision has already been made somewhere further back than thought, and the body is only just starting to catch up. This painting tells the story of that moment.

The shoulder is already turning, the collar's up, the sleeve rolled — small, unhurried signs of readiness. The face, turned back towards you, carries none of that uncertainty. It's calm, already at ease with what's ahead, glancing back gently, almost reassuringly, as if to say nothing to worry about your new journey.

The gingham check does the rest of the talking. It felt right that the only thing distorted in the painting is the thing closest to certainty — a grid, usually so orderly, gone fluid.

Adventure, for me, was all about setting an intention - the collar, the sleeve, the posture, already certain.
